Moderate Fast Action Rod

The moderate to slow action blanks are usually good for multi hook treble lures such as crank baits rattle baits and jerk baits.

I use most all baits but probably use soft plastics such as worms and lizards the most. A fast action fly rod or steelhead rod will bend much lower and more easily than a fast action. A fast action rod will bend in only the top third or less of the blank a medium or moderate action will bend in the top half or so and a slow action will bend starting in the lower third of the rod. Presentations and techniques that benefit from fast action rods are jigs texas rigged and carolina rigged worms.

Because of the additional rod flex energy distribution and forgiveness this is one of the most versatile bass rods you can own. Faster action rods flex mostly near the tip. The action of a rod is determined by where a rod flexes along the blank. Rod actions this describes where the rod bends when pressure or weight is applied to the rod.

Action balances the power of the rod for casting and fighting bass. A moderate fast or light action will bend nearly a third of the way down the rod blank which is considered slow. A fast action rod will bend in the top third or less of the blank a medium or moderate action rod will bend in the top half or so and a slow action rod will bend starting in the lower third of the rod and into the handle. I originally wanted a fast action but fenwick did not have one in that model.

Fast action is popular because it provides sensitivity for monitoring bites and can quickly load up for hook setting. During casting a moderate action rod will bend moderately for half of its length and the lower half will remain stiff. Suited to widest range of fishing conditions great versatile rod choice for beginners. Moderate action bends at the 30 40 mark and slow action bends at 50 or below.

Slower action rods flex down into the butt section. This description is subject to the type of rod you may be talking about at the time. The rod s action influences how it casts how sensitive the tip is and the rate at which it transfers the hook set to the bait at the end of the line. Fast action bends in the top 20 30 of the rod and it is the most common action rating.

Is a moderate fast action between medium and fast. A moderate or medium action rod is very versatile. More forgiving than a fast action rod a moderate action rod is somewhat flexible but also offers a good degree of stiffness. Improved line control and accuracy over fast action.

Sometimes slow action rods are termed parabolic meaning the bend of the rod is similar throughout the length. I am looking at a fenwick hmg 7 medium heavy rod with a moderate fast action.
